Harold Otto Strange of Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, Indiana passed away at 5:54 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital of Ft. Wayne, Indiana at the age of 88.
He was born on December 7, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Anna (Swienty) Strange and Richard Strange. On June 30, 1956 he was married to Doris S. (Scott) Strange. They shared 61 years of marriage before she passed away on May 19, 2018.
Harold graduated with a doctorate, earning his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955. He and his wife lived in the Philadelphia area until 1956 when they moved to Pittsburgh. They were long time members of Christ Church at Grove Farm in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Harold and Doris moved to Winona Lake, Indiana in 2014 where they became members of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, and enjoyed the friendships they made there as well as at Grace Village Retirement Community. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many. Harold would most want to be remembered for his steadfast faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son: Robert (Debra) Strange (North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina); daughter: Barbara (Mark) McCollom (Warsaw, Indiana); and five grandchildren: Joseph, Julie, Jenna, Zeb, and Drew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris.
Harold’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service to be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, Indiana in the Grace Village Chapel and officiated by Pastor Kip Cone and Chaplain Bryan Benjamin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, Indiana 46590 to go towards the Grace Village Art Care program; or to Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, Indiana 46590 and would be appreciated by the family.
