Homer G. “Gus” Sideris of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at his residence at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the age of 94.
He was born on July 1, 1924 in Akron, Ohio to Calliope (Maistros) Sideris and Avgerinos E. Sideris. On March 5, 1960 he was married to Nancy Carroll (Hatton) Sideris, who survives.
Gus proudly served in the U.S. Navy, and was a star baseball player for them during the WWII years. He graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was a corporate manager for 20 years and the past president of Buehler Corporation in Indianapolis. He was an insurance agent for 20 years and was the owner of Sideris and Associates in Fort Wayne and Warsaw, Indiana. Gus was past president of the United Way of Kosciusko County; president of the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club in Leesburg, Indiana; president of Heartline Pregnancy Center in Warsaw; founding director of the Kosciusko Leadership Academy (KLA) in Warsaw; and vice-president of Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana. He was a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and a Bible teacher for the past 20 years, did many bible studies at nursing homes and area businesses. Gus always kept busy and loved to volunteer where he was needed. In 2003 he was named Man of the Year by the Warsaw Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce. He will be dearly missed and forever loved by his family and many friends.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Carroll Sideris (Warsaw, Indiana); son: Peter Sideris and his wife Treasa (Columbia City, Indiana); three daughters: Hilary Sideris and her husband Roberto Franzone (Brooklyn, New York); Alexis Sideris Davis and her husband Kirk Davis (Washington, North Carolina); Dr. Lisa Sideris and her husband Robert Crouch (Bloomington, Indiana); nine grandchildren; and his sister: Maria Chapis (West Chester Pennsylvania). He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Philip Lindsay Sideris.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery, 421 N. Maple Avenue, Warsaw, Indiana.
A memorial service honoring Gus’ life will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 S. High Street, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Dr. Erik Ohman. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
