Jessie Whitaker

Jessie Whitaker of 203 N. Jefferson Street, Silver Lake, Indiana went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 8:40 a.m. at his residence in Silver Lake at the age of 82.

He was born on March 5, 1929 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Reverend Willie Whitaker and Brosie (Sloan) Whitaker. On July 3, 1948 he married Sadie Shepherd who passed away in February of 2009. On February 13, 1971 he was married to Mary Genevive (Jackson) Whitaker, who preceded him in death on February 12, 2002

Jessie worked for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for 22 years, and retired from Zimmer, Inc. in Warsaw, Indiana after 21 years. He was a longtime member of Silver Lake Gospel Hill Church.

He will be lovingly remembered by his five daughters: Pauline (husband Leonard) Blankenship (Silver Lake, Indiana); Deloris (husband Rev. Ervin) Bradley (Hamlet, Indiana); Lorene (husband Jeff) Moore (Warsaw, Indiana); Geraldine Slaymaker (Warsaw, Indiana); Mary Coning (North Manchester, Indiana); daughter-in-law: Pat Whitaker (Warsaw, Indiana); four sons: Pastor William (wife Lora) Whitaker (Warsaw, Indiana); J.B. (wife Cindy) Whitaker (North Manchester, Indiana); Pastor Frank (wife Lisa) Whitaker (Akron, Indiana); Jerry Whitaker (Warsaw, Indiana); two step-daughters: Brenda Grubbs (Warsaw, Indiana); Pat (husband Dallas) Owens (Warsaw, Indiana); and one step-son: Stan (wife Dana) Newingham (Evansville, Indiana).

He also leaves behind 41 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and three sisters: Oralee Shepherd (Claypool, Indiana); Zora Sparks (Warsaw, Indiana); Nora Irwin (Wildwood, Florida). He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sons: Jesse Duane Whitaker at the age of 8; and Pastor Wilbur Whitaker in 2005.

His visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 2:00 a€" 8:00 p.m. at Silver Lake Gospel Hill Church, 303 S. Jefferson Street, Silver Lake, Indiana.

His funeral service will be conducted on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Silver Lake Gospel Hill Church and officiated by Pastor Frank Whitaker, Pastor William Whitaker, Bishop Thomas Branham and Reverend Jess Gideon. Burial will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Silver Lake, Indiana.
