Judith H. Smyjunas

Judith H. Smyjunas of Leesburg, Indiana passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, Indiana at the age of 77. 

She was born on February 23, 1941 in South Bend, Indiana to Bert VanDercar and Henrietta (Grzeszczyk) VanDercar.  On October 13, 1962 in Auburn, Indiana she was married to Joseph Smyjunas, who survives.   

Judith was a 1959 graduate of DeKalb County High School, and she was a 1989 graduate of the University of New Hampshire.  She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Pierceton where she was a lector.  Judith will be forever loved and dearly missed by her family and church family.  

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Joseph Smyjunas (Leesburg, Indiana); son:  J. Robert (wife Bitsy) Smyjunas (Cincinnati, Ohio); and her daughter:  Elizabeth (husband Robert) Jackson (Raleigh, North Carolina).  Also surviving are five grandchildren:  Peter Jackson, Robert , Samantha, Evan and Quinn Smyjunas; and her brother:  Bert VanDercar (Boise, Idaho).  She was preceded in death by her parents.           

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 10:00 – 12:00 noon at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 408 W. Catholic Street, Pierceton, Indiana.  Her funeral mass will follow immediately at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 and celebrated by Father Chuck Herman.  A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Auburn, Indiana.  Arrangements were entrusted with Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
