Paul Sibray Obituary

Paul Edwin Sibray of Silver Lake, Indiana passed away surrounded by family at his residence at 9:21 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the age of 71.

He was born on February 12, 1948 in Flora, Indiana to Robert and Loretta June (Doan) Sibray.  Paul attended school in Flora and was a 1966 graduate of Carroll High School.  In high school he was an outstanding athlete in both track and basketball.

After high school he was drafted into the Army in 1967 and performed his service during the Vietnam War as an RTO.  Sergeant Sibray was awarded a bronze star for his bravery and leadership before returning home.

Following Vietnam, Paul enrolled as a freshman at Manchester College and studied Elementary Education.  When not studying, he met the love of his life Ann Marie Bosler, and the two were married on August 14, 1971 in Huntertown, Indiana.  Paul graduated in 1973 with a BS in Elementary Education and then received his Master’s Degree from Indiana University in 1978.  Paul taught 3rd grade at Caston School System and coached cross country, JV basketball, and track at the high school.

He transferred to Warsaw Community Schools in 1976 where he spent most of his years teaching the 4th grade at Claypool Elementary School and coaching at various levels.  His passion for running and coaching led him to coach the high school girl’s cross country team for many years and it was one of the experiences he loved most.  Paul was always a runner at heart and competed in numerous 10ks and various marathons, even traveling to the Olympics in 1996, all be it as a spectator.  Paul was an active member of the Claypool United Methodist Church and gave back to the community by serving on the Lake Township Trustees Advisory Board since 2006.  Paul and Ann made their home on Silver Lake in 1976 and have called it home ever since.  Some of his passions besides his wife, family, and friends included running, camping and enjoying nature.  From watching birds to watching his children’s games and performances, he enjoyed it all and was always their #1 fan.  Paul also enjoyed traveling immensely, especially when it involved the warm sun of Florida where they eventually established their second home.  He made a lasting impression on everyone that met him and he will be dearly missed.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Ann Marie Sibray (Silver Lake, Indiana); two daughters:  Jennifer (Coby) Bottorff (Westport, Kentucky); Jill (Jay) Sciortino (Indianapolis, Indiana); and two sons:  Jason (Jerra) Sibray (Clarksville, Tennessee); James (Holly) Sibray (Attica, Indiana).  He was “Pops” to seven grandchildren, Emilee, John Tyler, Hayden, Riley, Milo, Brady, and Enzo.  Also surviving are his brother, Ronald Sibray (Greentown, Indiana); and his sister, Cheryl Donoho (Cutler, Indiana).  He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Tony Stephen.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. There will also be visitation an hour prior to the service on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.
