Carolyn Nelson Obituary

Carolyn Ann (Herring) Lightle Nelson of Warsaw, Indiana entered into Heaven with the greatest of all, her Lord and Savior, her Maker and her Redeemer at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the age of 78.

She was born on November 23, 1943 in Blackford County Hospital in Hartford City, Indiana. Her parents were Paul Gerald Herring and Minnie (Furman) Herring of Montpelier, Indiana.  She married Neldon M. Lightle in August of 1962 and they later divorced.  In June of 1978 she then married Sherman Otto Nelson, they too divorced but they shared their love of their combined families.  He passed away on April 15, 2011.

Carolyn was a 1961 graduate of Montpelier High School.  During most of her life, she worked as a customer service secretary and receptionist in the manufactured home business.  On different occasions she had several clients whom she enjoyed helping with her cleaning businesses.  Carolyn was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in 1971 and Grand Page in 1972 and in 1977 she was appointed as Grand Representative to South Carolina from Indiana.  She was also a past member of the Blackford Community Club for many years.

Carolyn overcame many of life’s obstacles and over the years she recommitted herself to Christ.  She always loved her Lord, but like most people throughout life, there were times when she strayed from knowing and accepting God’s love.  God was always there, and Carolyn prayed and asked for his forgiveness and let her heart fill with his love.  She loved attending church and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family at Warsaw Family Worship Center.    She lived her life the best she could and leaves behind many memories for her loved ones.  Carolyn would most want to be remembered for her steadfast faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son:  Ronald L. (Nikki) Lightle (Montpelier, Indiana); daughter:  Cheryl Ann (Willy) Myers (Leesburg, Indiana); two step-sons:  Dan (Geraldine) Nelson (Warsaw, Indiana); Joe (Janet) Nelson (Warsaw, Indiana); and her step-daughter:  Annette (Kurt) Feneley (Pana, Illinois).  Also surviving are her three grandchildren:  Cameron Lightle, Chase (Paige) Myers, Kelsey (Kurt) Scott; great-grandson:  Edward Ryan Scott; sister-in-law:  Judy Herring (Petroleum, Indiana); and several very special nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sisters, two brothers, and her grandson.

Carolyn’s life will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Warsaw Family Worship Center, 1250 Husky Trail, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor William Whitaker and Pastor Glenn Hall.  Friends and family may visit prior to the service at the church from 12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m.  A private graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.  Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
