Charles Spillman Obituary

Charles Lindberg Spillman of Leesburg, Indiana passed away at 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Paddock Springs Assisted Living Facility in Warsaw, Indiana at the age of 94. 

He was born on July 4, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Iva P. (Nichols) Spillman and Leslie H. Spillman.  At the age of 21, Charles married Cassie R. Spillman on October 8, 1949.  They raised three children and experienced 36 years together until she passed away in 1986.  On April 25, 1987 he married Sandra Jane (Woodburn) Spillman and they shared 34 years of marriage together before he passed away. 

Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and proudly served until his honorable discharge as a Seaman First Class on August 18, 1946.  While he was in the military he was able to finish his high school education. 

Upon returning home he found a job at International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Indiana and he later worked the Waynedale area in Fort Wayne for the U.S. Postal Service.  Charles became the postmaster in Milford, Indiana where he retired in 1986.  He always enjoyed the outdoors and never stopped working even after retirement.  Charles spent another 17 years as a builder, landscaper and a realtor.   Charles was a Mason and a Shriner, loved his fellow servicemen and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster.  He enjoyed the fellowship of his church family as a member of North Webster Church of God.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife:  Sandra Jane Spillman (Leesburg, Indiana); daughter:  Debra (Mike) Parker (Claypool, Indiana); son:  Charles A. (Gaylene) Spillman (Indianapolis, Indiana); two step-daughters:  Lisa (Scott) Snyder (South Bend, Indiana); and Cheryl (Don) Templeton (North Port, Florida).  Also surviving are ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Cassie, three sisters, Dorothy, Betty and Anna, one brother, Harold, step-son, Mark Cowles, and his daughter Melissa LeCount.           

Charles’ life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Dennis Judy.  Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw, Indiana with military rites conducted by members of the American Legion and members of the active duty Navy Honor Guard.
