Delia Elizabeth Nix a resident of Warsaw Meadows Care Center, passed away at 1:55 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, Indiana at the age of 97.

She was born on February 18, 1923 in Broadhead, Kentucky to Katherine (Seals) Gumm and Bleve Gumm.  She was married to Calvie T. Tunsil in 1940.  Calvie passed away in 1986.  She was married on March 5, 1974 to James Murrill Nix.  They shared 32 years of marriage together before he passed away on December 1, 2006.

Delia lived a long and interesting 97 years.  Always a hard worker, she provided for her family over the years working at Cromwell Products in Cromwell, Indiana, and she was a powder bag sewer at an ammunition plant in Charleston, Indiana.  Delia was a caregiver to a friend in Tennessee, she had a kind nature and touched many lives wherever she was, and always put everybody ahead of herself.  She was a straight shooter, who would tell you what you needed to hear.  Her son’s stated that you could write a book about her.  She was a wonderful mother, great cook and loved to cook big meals.  She attended New Beginnings Church and World Outreach in Warsaw where she enjoyed fellowship with her church family and she dearly loved the Lord.  Delia had a big heart and loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family…she will be dearly missed.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons:  Carl Tuncil (Warsaw, Indiana); Calvin (Cathy) Tuncil, Jr. (Etna Green, Indiana); daughter:  Diana M. Martin (North Vernon, Indiana); twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is her brother:  Johny (Vicki) Gumm (Hamilton, Ohio); two sisters:  Geraldine Halsey (Fort Wayne, Indiana); and Virginia Baker (Perrysburg, Ohio).  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her daughter, Betty Jane Brock, four brothers, James, Donald, Harrison and Thurman Gumm, and two sisters, Cathleen Schlabach, and Christine Weede.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.  Due to the current, unprecedented guidelines limiting public gatherings because of the COVID-19 virus and safety concerns the visitation is limited to 25 people at a time. Delia’a life will be celebrated with a service following visitation at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Ronnie Patrick.  Burial will follow with a graveside service at Christian Chapel Cemetery in Merriam, Indiana, please follow social distancing guidelines at the cemetery as well.
