Douglas "Doug" MacArthur Walls

May 29, 1942 ~ May 30, 2022 (age 80)

Obituary

Douglas “Doug” MacArthur Walls of Pierceton, Indiana stood before his Lord and Maker and passed away at his residence surrounded by family at 2:43 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2022.  He celebrated his 80th birthday on this Earth the day before he passed away.

He was born on May 29, 1942 in Warsaw, Indiana to Lula (Spradlan) Walls and Perry Walls.  Doug was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana where he attended Pierceton High School.  Doug was married for a number of years to Brenda Walls and together they had four sons.  Though their marriage ended in divorce they always shared the love of their children.  Doug was blessed to share his life again with Nancy Lou Harris, he actually met his future wife in the first grade, where she was a classmate.  On September 6, 1986 they were married and celebrated 35 wonderful anniversaries before he passed away.

Doug was a self- taught man in many ways, he was great with his hands and could fix anything in the simplest of ways.  He started Walls Building in 1966; building many homes in the Kosciusko County area.  A high lite of his career was being able to travel to Washington D.C. with Breck and doing a remodel of a town house for Senator Floyd Fithian.  Doug and Nancy opened the first pizza shop in Pierceton in 1990.  He loved to be involved in his community and did so by serving eight years on the Pierceton Town Council from 1988-1995.  He was a former member of the Pierceton Kiwanis Club, served as past president of the Pierceton Commercial Club, and was honored on April 23, 1986 as the Pierceton Business Man of the Year from the Chamber of Commerce.  Doug also served as Chamber President in 1987.

He loved spending time with his boys and was Scout Master when they were growing up.  Nancy and Doug spent over 20 years wintering in Florida. When in Florida he took up woodcarving and became very accomplished at carving out mountain men and Indians.  He won numerous awards for his art and was featured in the National Chip & Chatter magazine.  Doug never stopped learning to do new things and was teaching himself how to play the banjo and collected several.  He loved working in the flower garden, restoring Ford vehicles, hanging out in his garage, woodcarving, and listening to a variety of music from county music, classical, old hymns and of course 50’s and 60’s music.  He collected vintage signs and car memorabilia, always an old car enthusiast his entire life, and had many vintage cars over the years.  Doug and his son Breck and Paul Johnston started the Cruisin Hoosier Car Club in 1987.  The club raised funds for Big Brother and Big Sisters as wells as for the Baker Youth Club of Kosciusko County.  One of Doug’s favorite things to do was spend time with his family especially in the pool with his kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren!  Doug formerly attended Pierceton First Baptist Church and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many…he will be dearly missed.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Nancy Lou Walls (Pierceton, Indiana), four sons, Brooks (Liz) Walls (Mentone, Indiana), Breck (Trudy) Walls (Pierceton, Indiana), Blake (Paula) Walls (Etna Green, Indiana), and Blair Walls (Pierceton, Indiana).  Also surviving are seven grandchildren:  Brooke, Bryce, Kyler, Kayle, Katie, Alyhsa and Cy, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, Irene Clay (Warsaw, Indiana), Alice (Luke) Lockwood (North Webster, Indiana), step-father, John King (Winona Lake, Indiana), and two sisters-in-law, Beckie Walls (Pierceton, Indiana), Susie Walls (Chico, California).  He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Brenda in 2007 and two brothers, Lawrence and Othel Lee Walls.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.  Doug’s life will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Glenn Hall.  A graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, Indiana.
