Earl "Poppy" Workley Obituary

There will be no congregating in the parking lot and physical distancing of six feet is mandatory.

Earl “Poppy” Leroy Workley of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his residence at the age of 82. 

He was born on September 17, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Gertrude Eilene (Combs) Workley and Arthur Leroy Workley.  He met Marilyn Elaine Workley and they were married on May 26, 1992.  They shared 28 years of marriage together before she passed away on June 20, 2020.    

Earl graduated from high school in 1954 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and proudly served in Korea.  He was honorably discharged in 1958.  For a number of years he lived in Pennsylvania and Florida prior to moving to Warsaw, Indiana in 1972.  Earl was a professional painter for over 40 years in Elkhart County, Indiana.  Poppy was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and he loved working outside and mowing his yard.  He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all. 

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter:  Aimee (Jim) Farmer (Warsaw, Indiana); two sons:  Dean (Carol) Workley (Florida); Mark (Lori) Hamilton (Columbia City, Indiana); six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and his brother:  Jim (Carol) Workley (Warren, Ohio).  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn on June 20, 2020, step-son, Daniel “Boonie” Hamilton who died on June 21, 2008, great-grandson, Bradley Harrell on December 22, 2013, and two brothers, William and Arthur Workley. 

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 11:00 – 1:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.  Earl’s life will be celebrated with a service at 1:00 p.m. and officiated by Pastor Kurt Feneley.  Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. #1126 both of Warsaw.

Memorial donations may be directed to Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice, P.O. Box 1196, Warsaw, Indiana  46581-1196 and would be appreciated by the family.
