Emanuel “Buck” Young, Jr. of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, Indiana at the age of 88.

He was born on September 28, 1931 in Warsaw, Indiana to Opal Oneta (Dunkleberger) Young and Emanuel Young.  On November 26, 1955 he was married to Laura Belle (Bolinger) Young.

Buck served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged.  He served four years as an electrician's mate in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. His ship, the aircraft carrier USS Princeton CV37 visited Hawaii, Hong Kong, and various Japanese ports and the U.S. west coast including San Diego, California and Bremerton, Washington.

Buck and his wife, Laura Belle, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1969. He was later appointed Bishop of the first congregation (ward) in Warsaw.  Buck gave many years of dedicated service to the church members in the area.

He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1949, and then from Marion College with a degree in business.  He retired after 33 years at United Telephone Company.  Buck began his career as a lineman, then became a draftsman and worked his way up to safety director in the HR department.  He was an entrepreneur, a trained electrician, a real estate agent, and he and his family remodeled houses as a side business.

Buck and Laura Belle travelled to every state in the U.S.A. when time was available, and they lived in Las Vegas, Nevada and Florida during retirement before returning to Warsaw.

Buck’s main hobby was playing golf which he enjoyed immensely. He was SCUBA certified and one of his big accomplishments was the sixty foot open water dive off West Palm Beach, Florida. He thoroughly enjoyed surfing, which he learned in Hawaii in 1950, and took up again during his retirement in Florida.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Laura Belle Young (Warsaw, Indiana), his six daughters:  Cheryl (Dean) Underwood (Tucson, Arizona), Beth (Duane) Ostler (Chandler, Arizona),   Patricia (Tony) Robertson (Vail, Arizona), Teresa Young (Saratoga Springs, Utah), Brenda (Joshua) Clark (Kamuela, Hawaii), Susan (Jason) Gibson (Avon, Indiana), and three sons:  Timothy (Jennifer) Young (Leesburg, Indiana), John Young (Logansport, Indiana), Daniel Young (Henderson, Nevada) and nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, two brothers, Jerry and Larry Young, two sisters, Mona Sumpter and Dona Ross.

Buck’s life will be celebrated with a private family graveside service on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery of  Warsaw officiated by Bishop Kellen Zollinger.  The family will have a memorial service at a later date.  Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
