Gloria Caroline Shipley of Leesburg, Indiana passed away at her residence surrounded by family at 8:17 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the age of 89.
She was born on December 28, 1931 in Claypool, Indiana to Elta Cleo (Parker) Baker and George Peter Baker.
Gloria graduated from Claypool High School in 1950. On September 9, 1951, she married Richard Ray Shipley. They shared 63 years of marriage until his death on January 26, 2015.
Gloria worked for many years as the executive secretary for the owners of Arnolt Corporation in Warsaw, Indiana. Later she worked alongside her husband, Richard, in their real estate business Shipley Area Realty and later Pier 13 Realty in the area.
She took singing lessons as a young child and loved music. She sang in the choir at the North Webster United Methodist Church, sang in the ladies' trio there, was a member of several community choirs and san at numerous weddings. Gloria was a very active member of the North Webster United Methodist Church where she along with her husband were youth counselors for seven years.
Another passion of hers was the North Webster Community Library. She supported the library and served on the board for several years.
She leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three siblings, Phyllis (Baker) Sittler, Donald J. Baker and Delta (Baker) Shipley.
She will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool, Indiana. A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the North Webster United Methodist Church Family Center in North Webster, Indiana at 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon. Arrangements have been entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, Indiana.
