Jean Ellon Sturgill of Warsaw, Indiana and affectionately known by her family and friends as “Mean Jean”, passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation in South Bend, Indiana at the age of 75.
She was born on February 28, 1947 in Vicco, Kentucky to Sinia Faye (Adams) Hatcher and Clarence Hatcher. She moved to Warsaw, Indiana from Kentucky when her family moved to the area and she spent the last 55 years in Kosciusko County. Jean was a hard-working lady her entire life. She worked for a number of years at Fibre Form in Columbia City, Indiana and later worked at Sun Metal and Big-R as the housewares manager in Warsaw. Jean loved nature and spending time outdoors fishing and camping. Most of all she loved her family and she will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind her son, John (Christine) Sturgill (South Bend, Indiana); daughter, Sonia Sturgill (Warsaw, Indiana); four grandchildren, Christopher, Emma, Matthew and Dylan; and four great-grandchildren, Delaney, Isley, Amari and Addelyn. Also surviving are three sisters, Jacqueline Hatcher (Leesburg, Indiana); Kathleen (Gary) Kilbourne (Pierceton, Indiana); Vicki (Curtis) Holle (Bloomington, Indiana); five brothers, Larry (Connie) Hatcher (Pierceton, Indiana); James (Ann) Hatcher (Leesburg, Indiana); Rick (Ginny) Hatcher (Warsaw, Indiana); Nick (Connie J.) Hatcher (Warsaw, Indiana); and Steven Timothy Hatcher (Warsaw, Indiana). She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Hatcher on October 20, 2013, mother, Sinia Faye Hatcher on December 15, 2010, and her brother, Darrell Wayne Hatcher on February 1, 2015.
Jean’s life will be celebrated with a service at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Glen Hughes. She will be laid to rest at a later date at Oswego Cemetery, Oswego, Indiana. Friends and family may visit an hour prior to the service from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
