Jonathan Greenleaf Walter, longtime resident of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 2:04 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Grace Village Health Care in Winona Lake, Indiana at the age of 61.
He was born on December 6, 1961 in Washington, DC to Peggy Lou (Greenleaf) Walter and Dean Irving Walter. On May 4, 1985 he married Lenise Dawn Sturgill, known by all as Sam. They were blessed with a daughter and shared 37 years of marriage together before Jonathan passed away.
Jonathan graduated from a Christian high school in Washington DC in 1979. He has been a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 40 years where he also graduated from Grace College and Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana with his Master’s in both counseling and in ministry. He worked for many years at Grace Manufacturing in Warsaw and retired due to ill health. Jonathan enjoyed writing, fishing and was a big Red Skins fan. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind his wife, Lenise “Sam” Dawn Walter (Warsaw, IN); daughter, Carly (Paul) Morales (Warsaw, IN); nine grandchildren, Mayla, Hadley, Tegan, Risa, Reyna, Miguel, Zoe, Zachy and Jaden; and his mother, Peggy Lou Walter (Atlanta, GA). He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Emily Shoppy in 2022.
Jonathan’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 in The Chapel at Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, Indiana. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
A private graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.
