José Cecilio López

Jose Cecilio Lopez Terrazas of Winona Lake, Indiana passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the age of 61. 

He was born on October 6, 1962, in Guanajuato, Mexico to Esperanza (Terrazas) Lopez and Meliton Lopez.  He met his future wife, Teresa Olmos, in July of 1986.  They dated for three long years and finally married her on January 14, 1989.   They were blessed to have raised six children and become grandparents during their 34 years of marriage together.  

Jose was a kind and familiar face in the area working in residential construction.  Having lived in Kosciusko County for the past 27 years he met many people who became dear friends during his life.  Jose enjoyed his church family at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Warsaw that he attended with his family.  He was the most loving grandpa to all of his grandchildren and loved spending as much time with them.  He was loving, silly and stern when needed.  Jose loved working on cars, especially with his boys.  He tried to teach them the Spanish words for various car parts that always seemed to get screwed up in translation when his sons went to actually get the part.  They laughed about it plenty over the years because Dad always knew exactly what HE was talking about.  Another special memory the family will cherish forever is Dad LOVED to take care of his garden, especially his chiles!  He was so proud of his garden and enjoyed spending hours watering and weeding.  Jose will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  Though his life on this Earth wasn’t long, he lived a wonderful and full life and was dearly loved by his family. 

He leaves behind his wife, Teresa Lopez (Winona Lake, IN); three sons, Jose F. Lopez (Winona Lake, IN); Juan Lopez (Winona Lake, IN); Miguel Lopez (Winona Lake, IN); three daughters, Marissa Lopez (Warsaw, IN); Christina (Santiago) Gonzalez (Warsaw, IN); Alejandra (Eduardo) Sanchez (Ft. Wayne, IN); eleven grandchildren; four brothers and one sister.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Israel Lopez.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.   

Jose’s life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 225 Gilliam Drive, Warsaw, Indiana and celebrated by Father Constantino Rocha.  A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 421 N. Maple Avenue, Warsaw. 

José Cecilio López Terrazas de Winona Lake, Indiana, falleció rodeado de su familia el martes 10 de octubre de 2023 en el Parkview Regional Medical Center en Fort Wayne, Indiana, a la edad de 61 años.

Nació el 6 de octubre de 1962 en Guanajuato, México, hijo de Esperanza (Terrazas) López y Melitón López. Conoció a su futura esposa, Teresa Olmos, en julio de 1986. Salieron durante tres largos años y finalmente se casaron el 14 de enero de 1989. Tuvieron la suerte de haber criado a seis hijos y convertirse en abuelos durante sus 34 años de matrimonio juntos.

José era un rostro amable y familiar en el área que trabajaba en la construcción residencial. Habiendo vivido en el condado de Kosciusko durante los últimos 27 años, conoció a muchas personas que se convirtieron en queridos amigos durante su vida. José disfrutó de su familia en la iglesia católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en Warsaw. Era el abuelo más cariñoso con todos sus nietos y le encantaba pasar tanto tiempo con ellos. Era cariñoso, tonto y severo cuando era necesario. A José le encantaba trabajar en autos, especialmente con sus hijos. Trató de enseñarles las palabras en español para varias piezas de automóviles que siempre parecían estropearse en la traducción cuando sus hijos iban a buscar la pieza. Se rieron mucho de eso a lo largo de los años porque papá siempre supo exactamente de qué estaba hablando ÉL. Otro recuerdo especial que la familia atesorará para siempre es que a papá le ENCANTÓ cuidar su jardín, ¡especialmente sus chiles! Estaba muy orgulloso de su jardín y disfrutaba pasar horas regando y desyerbando. José siempre será recordado como un amoroso esposo, padre, abuelo, hermano y amigo. Aunque su vida en esta Tierra no fue larga, vivió una vida maravillosa y plena y su familia lo amaba mucho.

Deja atrás a su esposa, Teresa López (Winona Lake, IN); tres hijos, José F. López (Winona Lake, IN); Juan López (Winona Lake, Indiana); Miguel López (Winona Lake, IN); tres hijas, Marissa López (Warsaw, IN); Christina (Santiago) González (Warsaw, IN); Alejandra (Eduardo) Sánchez (Ft. Wayne, IN); once nietos; cuatro hermanos y una hermana. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres y su hermano, Israel López.

El velorio de José se llevará a cabo de 4:00 a 7:00 p.m. el lunes 16 de octubre de 2023 en Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.

La vida de José se celebrará con una Misa de Cristian Entierro a las 12:00 del mediodía el martes 17 de octubre de 2023 en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, 225 Gilliam Drive, Warsaw, Indiana y será celebrada por el Padre Constantino Rocha.  Seguirá el entierro en el cementerio Oakwood, 421 North Maple Avenue, Warsaw.
