Letha D. Shepherd of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 9:05 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw at the age of 91.
She was born on April 21, 1928 in Nicholas County, Kentucky to Amanda (Hopkins) Shannon and John L. Shannon. On November 20, 1954 she was married to Joe C. Shepherd. They shared 37 years of marriage together before he passed away on October 12, 1992.
Because of her mother’s premature death, Letha was raised by her aunt and uncle, Maude and James Shannon. She graduated from Carlisle High School in Carlisle, Kentucky. When she moved to Kosciusko County, Indiana she worked for 21 years for Zimmer, Inc. in Warsaw. Her favorite job was being a mother and taking care of her family. She enjoyed a lifetime of working in her garden and yard, she simply enjoyed being outdoors. Letha had always had a relationship with her Lord and Savior and was of Baptist faith. She was also an avid sports fan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be dearly missed.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son: Joe (Darlleen) Shepherd (Warsaw, Indiana); daughter: Nancye (Robert) Whitney (Hampton, Virginia); five grandchildren: Amanda Hughey, Brooke (Jay) Flores, Robert J. Whitney, Joel (Karla) Shepherd, and Aaron Shepherd; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers, and five sisters and one grandson-in-law Reggie Hughey.
Letha’s life will be celebrated with a private family viewing and service at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Gary Hurd. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw, Indiana.
Memorial donations in Letha’s name may be directed to Harbor Light Hospice, 1820 E. Day Road, Mishawaka, Indiana 46545 and would be appreciated by the family.
