She was born on April 21, 1928 in Nicholas County, Kentucky to Amanda (Hopkins) Shannon and John L. Shannon.  On November 20, 1954 she was married to Joe C. Shepherd.  They shared 37 years of marriage together before he passed away on October 12, 1992.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son:  Joe (Darlleen) Shepherd (Warsaw, Indiana); daughter:  Nancye (Robert) Whitney (Hampton, Virginia); five grandchildren:  Amanda  Hughey, Brooke (Jay) Flores, Robert J. Whitney, Joel (Karla) Shepherd, and Aaron Shepherd; and 13 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers, and five sisters and one grandson-in-law Reggie Hughey.
