Michael Reid Shapiro of Warsaw, Indiana passed away unexpectedly at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Parkview Regional Medical Center of Fort Wayne, Indiana at the age of 59.
He was born on January 21, 1961 in Pueblo, Colorado to June Marjorie (Sigman) Shapiro and Harold Shapiro. On November 24, 1990 he was married in Utica, Illinois to Penelope “Penny” Lynn (Munson) Shapiro. They shared 25 years of marriage together before she passed away on August 21, 2015.
Michael received his B.S. degree in accounting in 1983 from the University of Connecticut, and his JD degree in 1986 from Washburn University School of Law. He later attended New York University School of Law and earned his LLM in taxation in 1987, and his MBA in finance in 1998 from Indiana University.
He had been a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana since 2007 and had worked for the past 13 years for Zimmer Biomet as a financial executive. His wife Penny was very involved in her children’s school activities and after her death in 2015 he filled that role for his children.
He will be lovingly remembered by his four sons: Matthew, Jacob, Joshua, and Samuel Shapiro; and his daughter Hannah Shapiro (all of Warsaw). Also surviving are two brothers: Richard (Amy) Lecocq Shapiro (The Woodlands, Texas); Stuart (Susan) Shapiro (Denver, Colorado); his mother and father-in-law: Bob and Linda Munson (Granville, Illinois); and his brother-in-law: Robert (wife Brai) Munson (Minooka, Illinois). He was preceded in death by his wife Penny and his parents.
Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Michael’s life at a memorial service that will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Rabbi Paula Winnig of the Congregation Achduth Vesholom. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
