Peter “Pete” A. Schaaf of Leesburg, Indiana passed away at 12:48 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw at the age of 83.

He was born on July 22, 1937 in Wabash, Indiana to Hueston Everett Schaaf and Rosetta Rebecca (Slagel) Schaaf.  He was never alone growing up as he was a part of a big family with MANY sisters and one brother.  He married Geraldine (Dye) Schaaf, the perfect lady to share his life with on December 6, 1967.  They shared 40 years of marriage together before she passed away on December 23, 2007.

Pete was a graduate of Wabash High School and the next day he went straight into adulthood like most did in those days.  He was a dependable, hard worker his entire life spending 21 years at Goshen Rubber and later he worked for Chore Time-Brock in Milford for 20 years in ground maintenance.  Pete was an avid outdoorsman, a gun enthusiast, and one of his favorite activities was playing pool at the Keg Tavern in Leesburg.  He wasn’t a gambler, but he enjoyed a good game with good drinks and conversation.  Pete also enjoyed getting to know his neighbors and chewing the fat while hanging out in his 17 acre back yard.  He simply never met a stranger and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone.  Living in Kosciusko County, Indiana he was afforded many lakes to choose from to spend time on, but his favorite was Chapman Lake.  He was affectionately known as “Uncle Pete” to his family and LOVED his children and grandchildren.  He always made it a point to never miss a family event.  His personality and bold smile will be dearly missed by all.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter:  Tamra Schaaf (Fort Wayne, Indiana); son:  Daniel Barker (Kokomo, Indiana); four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters:  Joanne, Doris, Virginia, Becky, Pat and Barbara; and his brother David.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.  Pete’s life will be celebrated immediately following visitation at 11:00 a.m. and officiated by Ken Locke.  A graveside service will follow at Ulrey Memorial Cemetery of Silver Lake, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be directed to Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, 1048 S. 325 W., Pierceton, Indiana  46562.
