Ralph Eugene Smith

Ralph Eugene Smith, formerly of Warsaw, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the age of 86.  He arrived Christmas Day in 1932 in Rush County Indiana to Jennie Emily (Pollitt) Smith and Verl Elder Smith.  On May 22, 1960 he was married to Beverly (Bartels) Smith.  They shared 48 loving years of marriage together before she passed away on March 20, 2009.  

Ralph received his BSME degree from Indiana Institute of Technology and worked for 28 years as a biomedical mechanical engineer for Zimmer, Inc. in Warsaw.  He retired in 1998 and spent his retirement years traveling, sharing his faith with others and spending time with his daughters and their families, encouraging them  in all of life’s endeavors.  He attended Warsaw Wesleyan Church (now called Pathway Church), and he had previously attended Warsaw Church of God. Ralph will be remembered as a quiet man who was intelligent, kind and gentle, with a great sense of humor. Most of all he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. 

He is survived by his two daughters:  Cherrill (Todd) Warren (Minnesota); Jennie (Craig) Peplin (Georgia); five grandchildren:  Roxanne Warren (Minnesota); Raeleen (Dan) Rowe (Minnesota);      Courtney, Chase and Cody Peplin (Georgia); and one great-granddaughter:  Lilah Bea Rowe.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Beverly, brother, Richard and sister, Norma.            

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. 

Ralph’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service that will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
