Richard Joseph Katte

Richard Joseph Katte, affectionately known by all as “Katte”, passed away at 6:12 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw, Indiana at the age of 89.  Katte was a longtime resident of Winona Lake, Indiana having resided in Kosciusko County for the past 70 years.

He was born on December 13, 1933, in Richmond, Indiana to Helen Mae (Jennings) Katte and William Edward Katte.  Katte married Mary Ellen Katona, though it ended in divorce, they always shared the love of their daughter they were blessed with.

Katte worked in real estate investment.  He loved being active outdoors whenever possible.  Katte was a great outdoorsman, he enjoyed running, biking, rock climbing and water rafting.  He was a loving father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind his daughter, Heather Batalis (Warsaw, IN); two grandchildren, Nicholas and Brooke Batalis (Warsaw, IN).  He was preceded in death by his wife and three sisters, Dorothy, Jane and Carol.  

He will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, Indiana with a private graveside service.  Arrangements are entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
