Sally Slone Akers

Sally E. Slone Akers of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 5:41 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 surrounded by her family after a long life of 90 years. 

She was born on April 4, 1929 in Blue River, Kentucky to Annabelle (Whitaker) Slone and Harmison Slone.  On August 5, 1950 she was married to Ervin Slone.  They shared 30 years of marriage before he passed away on December 15, 1980.  After a few years, Sally was ready to marry again.  On March 1, 1985 she married Glen Akers, he passed away on November 23, 1990. 

She had been a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 67 years moving here from Kentucky.  Sally had always worked various jobs throughout her life while raising her family.  She had worked for a number of years at R.R. Donnelley’s in Warsaw as a material handler, but her favorite job was being Mom.  She was a proud homemaker and took pride in her garden.  Sally always loved to plant beautiful flowers and enjoyed playing cards with others.  Prior to moving in with her son, she had been a resident of Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, Indiana for four years.  Sally will be remembered for her great love for her family and she especially loved all of her grandchildren…she will be dearly missed. 

She will be lovingly remembered by her son:  Ervin (Peggy) Slone, Jr. (Warsaw, Indiana); two daughters:  Ann Smith (Warsaw, Indiana); and Ethel (Rodney) Barnes (Warsaw, Indiana).  Also surviving are her beloved nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and her brother:  Burns (Wanda) Slone (Blue River, Kentucky).  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, one sister, her daughter, one grandson, two great-grandchildren, and her son-in-law.            

Friends and family are invited to share time visiting from 10:00 – 12:00 noon on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. 

A private family graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor David Cripe. 

Memorial donations in Sally’s name may be directed to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, 1048 S. 325 W., Pierceton, Indiana  46562 and would be appreciated the family.
