Shirley Hoover Obituary

Shirley Ann Hoover of Warsaw, Indiana passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center of Warsaw at the age of 84.

She was born on July 2, 1939, in Bremen, Indiana to Delores (Saur) Cox and Floyd Cox.  On January 21, 1984, she married William “Bill” Jay Hoover, who survives.  Shirley and Bill recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

Shirley was a 1957 graduate of Bremen High School and was a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana for the past 50 years.  She was the smiling and familiar face working as one of the clerks at Silveus Gas Station in Warsaw for many years.  Later she worked at McClures Gas Station in Silver Lake, Indiana and at Cent Saver Gas Station in Warsaw.  Shirley enjoyed her job because she loved to talk to the customers, and over the years she knew many of the regulars by name and became familiar friends with many of them.  She was an avid I.U. basketball and Notre Dame football fan and enjoyed cheering them on whether they won or lost.  Her favorite pastime was always baking, and her family enjoyed many delicious treats.  Shirley loved spending time with her grandchildren and teaching them how to bake as well as how to clean up their baking mess!  She was dearly loved by her family and will forever be remembered in the memories she left behind.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, William “Bill” Hoover (Warsaw, IN); three sons, Don Mort (North Manchester, IN); Terry Mort (Orlando, FL); Jeff (Bethany) Hoover (Warsaw, IN); two daughters, Barb (Tom) Arnett (Bullard, TX); and Angela (Bob) Dwyer (Willa Park, IL).  She also leaves behind four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Donna) Cox (Bremen, IN); and her sister, Helen (Carl) Moser (Bremen, IN).  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Shirley’s family will mourn her passing privately, thoughts and prayers are appreciated.  Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
