Stanley "Stan" Williams Obituary

Stanley “Stan” R. Williams of Silver Lake, Indiana passed away at 12:42 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Parkview Wabash Hospital in Wabash, Indiana at the age of 91.

He was born on August 3, 1932, in Claypool, Indiana to Florence (Lightfoot) Williams and Raymond Williams.  On April 12, 1953, he married Mary Evelyn “Toots” Williams.  They were blessed to share 56 years of marriage together before she passed away on December 22, 2009.

Stan was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana where he graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1950.  He Enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1954.

He was a hardworking and reliable man who worked for many years at Kimball Glass in Warsaw, Indiana where he retired from.  He also worked for Chamberlain Products Corporation in Akron, Indiana where he was the production control manager.  Stan lived in Silver Lake, Indiana for the majority of his life where he and his wife raised their two children.  He served his community of Silver Lake as a town council member for six years.

Stan LOVED the game of baseball and was passionate about every aspect of the game.  He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed many a Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field as he had weekend season tickets for many years.  Stan was ecstatic to see his Cub’s win the World Series in his lifetime!  Stan’s life always had baseball as part of it from being involved in Silver Lake Little League and Warsaw Little League, being a little league baseball coach for many years, to serving as an umpire.  He umpired many a baseball game at the CCAC in Warsaw and at many other places in the county.  He also coached a men’s softball team called the Warsaw Travelers for several years.  He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and I.U. basketball…but nothing could ever replace his love of baseball!!  One of his favorite pastimes was going turkey hunting and hanging out enjoying nature with his long-time friend Ed in Mitchell, Indiana at Ed’s Cabin.  Later making the trip to the cabin with his grandson, Jason, spending quality time together along with Stan's dog, Izzy.  Stan loved the simple things in life and very much enjoyed his family.  He will forever be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.

He leaves behind his son, David (René) Williams (Silver Lake, IN); Daughter, JoAnn Richardson (Warsaw, IN); two grandsons, Jason (Lurena) Kerlin (Warsaw, IN); Cody (Kate) Williams (Ft. Wayne, Indiana); three great-grandchildren, Conner, Olivia, and Owen Williams; and Izzy, his beloved dog.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary E. “Toots” Williams and son-in-law, Larry Richardson.

Stan’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Lakeview Cemetery in Silver Lake, Indiana where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife.  Pastor Terry Bradford of First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County will officiate, and military rites will be conducted by members of the American Legion Post #49, V.F.W. #1126 both of Warsaw and active-duty members of the Army Honor Guard.  Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.
